I strongly dissagree with that 99,9 %! There is a world outside the USA, too. And even in the USA it must be more than 0,1 %!
I know a lot of private filmmakers here, and most of them convert film only for one reason: to edit sound or picture of both digtally, for afterwards splicing their original in one step and transfering the digital sound track to stripe or CD. There are coupling methods between computers and editing tables/viewers. There are methods for create syncron CDs, even in Dolby-Surround. Here, nobody is simply satisfied to get another video tape. Everybody is hunting hi-tech projectors. Look only at the ebay-bids-wars, whenever a Elmo or Beaulieu machine appears!
